Silk Headscarves, A Timeless Trend

Silk Head Scarf Prima Darling

Silk headscarves have adorned the heads of the rich, famous and beautiful for decades. Think of the queen of England, Grace Kelly and Catherine Deneuve. It may seem slightly old school, but there is a timeless appeal for the silk headscarf.  In their spring 2018 presentation, For Restless Sleepers used long, narrow scarves twisted and wrapped around the head as a band.  Large, square, silk scarves were folded in half and tied at the nape of the neck as a kerchief in the sublime Valentino collection for fall. That confirmed it for me; silk headscarves will be in heavy rotation for this spring/summer. Here are options in size and shape to get the look.

As seen on the Valentino runway, I would venture this is around a 35 inch square silk scarf folded on the diagonal. A bandana size silk scarf of 22 inches square would also work if you prefer a sportier look with less tail.

For a twisted headband, as styled above For Restless Sleepers, use a narrow scarf at least 60 inches in length, twisted at the top of the head and tied at the nape of the neck.

The bandana scarf folded, or the long narrow scarf can be fashioned into a headband as styled for Dolce and Gabbana. Experiment in front of the mirror.  I like when the hairline shows as in the above photo and on the Valentino runway. And don’t forget to pack a scarf or two when you travel, they’re great for unpredictable hair days.
