As stated earlier in Clean Living, my intention this September is to de-clutter and simplify my life. This philosophy will extend to my wardrobe, which is a major source of the clutter. I tend to wear the same favorites over and over again, the cashmere sweater that always feels right, the great fitting pant that can be worn with heels or flats, the chunk heeled boot I can walk all over town in, you get the idea. I have a closet full of expensive, intricate designer clothes that rarely get worn because it feels like work to wear them. This season I’m going to attempt to be more strategic in my wardrobe plan and focus only on the pieces I know I’ll live in. That means everyday run around clothes that can be dressed up or down. This is also an acknowledgement that the world is a much more casual place than my closet currently reflects.

Simple, practical clothes are not always the easiest to find. Though they may serve the purpose, they can leave you cold when it comes to excitement. It’s the subtlety of cut and proportion, the quality of materials and the interesting details that bring life to minimalist clothes. One designer that has quietly achieved this for the past thirteen years is Nili Lotan.   A loyal customer following drives her successful business, not hype. More than elevated basics, the clothes are styling building blocks that will easily integrate with what you have. I particularly love her knits for their luxurious yarns, interesting stiches and just right proportions. Here are some of my favorite looks from fall…
