I like to occasionally look back a year on the blog just to compare it with my present leanings. On April 4th, last year I did a story titled Smooth Transition, and I must say it is just as applicable today. I used it as my jumping off point for this post. We seem to be in a perpetual state of transitional weather. Technically its spring here in New York, but it still feels like winter. Though throwing on the old winter clothes just doesn’t cut it. Taking my cue from the old post, lets look at navy and oyster as a means to slowly but surely make a smooth transition into spring and even on to summer.
A lightweight, oversized cashmere sweater in navy is an essential transition piece that you’ll live in. This one from Raey, hits on the big trend without overwhelming. Top Photo Elle Denmark. Here’s a less expensive version from Everlane, I wear lightweight cashmere all year, it’s perfect for cool summer evenings and nothing feels better on.This super plush cashmere sweater from The Elder Statesman would work well over any of the suggested bottoms below. And a less expensive version, in soft cotton with the right relaxed proportions, from Lauren Manoogian.Jesse Kamm’s pants are a perennial favorite, reported on here last year.I have a strong feeling for a sailor pant in oyster, these from ALC are perfect with the navy cashmere sweaters or with a skinny tee later on.High-waisted, skinny but not tight is perfect for this spring-summer, these from Jesse Kamm. This Loup Charmant skirt could become your best friend this summer, for now wear it with a big sweater with the sleeves pushed up, for summer throw it over a bathing suit, tank or tee.Love this Courreges ribbed tee, perfect for when sweaters can finally be shed, for now a great layering piece.I would order this APC denim jacket one size up to accommodate big sweaters underneath. It has great details and love the look of the band collar closed. While it’s still too cold for sandals these pumps are the perfect transition shoe and work with all the bottoms suggested. Love either navy suede, red leather or oyster suede for this story.
