If you’re hunting for treasure and are in possession of an American Express Black Card, the recently remodeled main floor of Bergdorf Goodman will not disappoint. The floor was unveiled in September, after the first major renovation in thirty years and it is spectacular. The space is open and light mixing modern fixtures, cases and tables with Beaux Arts moldings and marble floors. Bergdorf has always been synonymous with luxury but with the new main floor the bar has been raised. The carefully curated products are treated like treasures, displayed to their full advantage, and in such glorious surroundings the sticker shock stings less. You won’t get this at your computer late at night.
I’ll always have a soft spot for Bergdorf Goodman. When I had my own collection they were the first to buy the entire line. I gladly gave them an exclusive in New York and in turn they were very supportive. Before that it was my favorite place to go as a student to bask in the luxury of it all and occasionally splurge on something. It’s a glorious store, one of the most beautiful anywhere, and the new main floor is just another reason to slow down, browse around and fully appreciate the treasures that are there.
