Often, an idea bubbles around before it hits the surface and begins to show up everywhere. Such is the case with the humble brown paper lunch bag reimagined as a chic clutch. In late January the California based handbag company, Marie Turnor, reached out to Prima Darling for a possible collaboration. The bags are all hand crafted in California by local artisans. Central to their collection is the picnic series, including the lunch bag. Soon after the initial contact I noticed on Net-a-Poter the same leather roll top lunch bag, but this one was by Simon Miller. A week later in the opening image of the Monse presentation the model holds a leather roll top lunch bag with the brand name boldly stamped on the body of it. So it appears that the lunch bag is having a moment.
Marie Turnor founder, Beth Goodman, designed the lunch bag in 2008. On a trip to Paris, Beth was inspired by a chic Parisian woman spotted holding a paper bag. She immediately decided to make the bag in leather and voila, the bag and company were born in 2009. The lunch bag is still one of their best sellers, now offered in a variety of colors and sizes. Full disclosure, I was sent a bag to assess the quality, which is excellent, though this is not a sponsored post, all opinions expressed are my own.
Beth, a native New Yorker, went to art school in London then transferred to FIT in New York. After school she launched a clothing line, sold the company and became a stylist, which brought her to Los Angeles. Nine years ago she founded Marie Turnor and committed to supporting local artisans by producing exclusively in California.
I predict we’ll see more incarnations of the lunch bag, but be sure to check out the original first. Now is a great time, Marie Turnor is having a flash sale until Friday or see the complete line at marieturnor.com.
