Lately the model, actress and world traveller Lauren Hutton has been on my mind. Perhaps it’s because the rest of the world only recently caught up to her relaxed and comfortable sense of personal style. Or possibly it’s my own desire to adopt her globe trotting sense of adventure now that my youngest daughter will soon to be off to college. Whatever it is I’m honoring Lauren Hutton as the subject of this installment of Prima Darling’s Fifty over Forty.
Lauren Hutton
Hutton’s famous gapped tooth grin and free spirit have always set her apart from the field. She has enjoyed unheard of longevity with a modeling career that has spanned over fifty years. In 1973 she landed the most lucrative cosmetic contract at the time with Revlon. This afforded her to indulge her life long passion for travel and adventure. Her continued embrace of every stage of the journey make her even more compelling and fabulous with age.
A serious motorcycle accident in 2000 nearly killed Hutton. Bedridden for a year she was cared for by close friends from the art world. After fully recovering her wanderlust continued as did her modeling career, appearing in a Calvin Klein underwear ad at 73, and walking the Bottega Veneta Spring ’17 runway as well as appearing in their Spring ad campaign. In October 0f 2017 she graced the cover of Vogue Italia’s “Timeless Issue” dedicated to women over sixty. Steven Klein shot three different versions of the covers. Not surprisingly Hutton is the record holder for Vogue covers with 40 in all, 27 of them for American Vogue.
Lauren Hutton has always been a trailblazer. She’s allowed herself to age naturally, as only a great beauty who is fully comfortable in her own skin can. The wrinkles of experience evident on her face have only increased her appeal and are testament to a life fully lived.
