Part of the mission at Prima Darling is to promote new and emerging brands that are doing a great job of creating clothes women of all ages can wear in their real lives. Co, the Los Angeles based company certainly fits the bill. Established in 2011 by now husband and wife team, Justin Kern and Stephanie Danan, the brand exudes a modern take on silver screen Hollywood glamour. From the start their aesthetic was well defined, coupled with a practicality that emphasized modern ease and wearability.
Danan, born in Marrakech and raised in Montreal, was exposed to the fashion industry through her father, a distributor and mother an accessories designer. She moved to L.A. in the late 90’s to pursue a career as an independent film producer. Kern started off as a model working with Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier and Steven Meisel. Later he became a producer for Testino. He moved to L.A. in 2006 to work as a screenwriter. After meeting in 2008 the couple’s shared entrepreneurial streak and visual sense led them to launch Co. They distinguished themselves by producing a short film to introduce the collection starring the French actress Elodie Bouchez. The fashion world took note and they’ve been growing ever since. In 2014 they partnered with Andrew Rosen of Theory fame and entertainment manager Scooter Braun.
Their artfully produced look books are cinematic in feel and worth looking over to get the full picture of the brand (follow links in captions). Currently the best selection of Co is available at Moda Operandi and Farfetch where much of it is on sale.
