Tom Ford and More New York Fashion Week Highlights

Much of what was shown today was too frilly, fussy or just plain girly for my tastes. That never was my style and I’m certainly not going to buy into it at this stage of the game. I’m not looking at the shows with an editorial eye, I’m looking for clothes I want to wear. That said here’s what I found enticing today.

Tom Ford was the big news with his show on Wednesday night, he kept it sharp with nary a ruffle or flower in sight.

For Spring Tomas Maier added vibrant color and pattern to his relaxed silhouettes.

Urban Zen has benefitted from the unfettered attention Donna Karen can now give it after her departure from her eponymous company. Karen is sticking with the see now buy now model and showed fall on Thursday. It’s worth a look.

Relative newcomer Marina Moscone showed a clean and restrained collection, beautifully presented with minimal accessories, something I welcome.

The major show of Thursday was Calvin Klein. Raf Simons expanded on the subversive Americana theme he introduced last season. This collection did not entice me to Drink the Calvin Klein Kool Aid, though I’m fairly certain the critics will. Take a look and decide for yourself.
