Here’s a novel idea, design great looking handbags with a clean modern aesthetic, add artful hardware and unusual color combinations and then, here’s the catch, price them around five hundred dollars. This is exactly what the London based company Danse Lente has done.
Danse Lente, which means slow dance in French, produces clean architectural bags always with an element of surprise. I first became aware of them during a recent visit to Five Story here in New York. As I admired the Johnny bag the salesperson told me it was just in and was priced at 385.00. I couldn’t believe it, the quality, leather and hardware looked every bit as expensive as a Celine bag. I should have moved fast because that bag is now sold out almost everywhere.
Danse Lente is catching on quickly. The handbags are carried by Net a Porter, Moda Operandi, Five Story and the Danse Lente site, but don’t sit on this too long, many styles and colors are already sold out.
