News broke on Friday of Consuelo Castiglioni’s resignation as creative director of Marni. Castiglioni has been a rock solid, consistent force in fashion and often the cause for adjusting our eyes to what looks new. She has forged her own unique path showing quirky and ugly pretty long before it was the norm. Castiglioni always remained true to her own creative vision and in the process gave woman (and men) of all ages, and I stress all ages, the opportunity to dress in an interesting, creative and self expressive way.
Ms. Castiglioni with her husband and business partner, Gianni, launched Marni in 1994. It remained a family business up until December of 2012 when it was sold to the Italian fashion group Only The Brave owned by Renzo Rosso, the founder of Diesel. Gianni and their two children, Carolina and Giovanni have also severed ties with the company. For more details follow the link to The Business of Fashion. Here is my homage to Marni; Ms. Castiglioni’s presence will be missed.
