Champions of Style

Roger Federer

With the US Open in full swing let’s take a second look at Champions of Style.

In honor of the start of the US Open this week I’m taking a look back at the fashion of tennis beginning early last century. No other sport comes close to tennis in expressing the athlete’s personality and style during competition.   A champion must have the physical strength, endurance and nerves of steel necessary to survive a match of several hours with millions of eyes focused upon them. During competition the player’s mental game is as apparent as the physical, intimately attaching viewers to players unlike any other sport. Not exactly for the faint of heart, our champions have all been charismatic, strong willed personalities and not least of all style stars.
