Red Alert At Valentino Pre-Fall

Valentino Pre-Fall Prima Darling

The seismic shift in fashion to more casual and undone as opposed to lady like and pulled together has not always been a smooth transition for the big heritage brands.  Most have scrapped the house codes and DNA to keep up.  Not Pierpaolo Piccioli. He continues to steer the house of Valentino to the shores of modernity while respecting the history of the house. He’s a prolific designer who still makes clothes of arresting beauty, flattering and wearable in the real world.  His Valentino Pre-Fall was yet another triumph.  Japan played host for the show inspiring discrete references to the culture without appropriation or clichés. The intense red of the Japanese flag dominated the show, both opening and closing it.

Tis the season to break out the red, with that in mind I’ve selected red looks to inspire.  You can watch the entire show here or see photos of the collection at vogue.com.
