Green New York

When my girls were little I was fortunate enough to decamp to the beach for the entire summer. I loved my break from city life, the close proximity to the ocean and being outdoors all day. When it’s stifling hot in New York, as it was last week, one has no choice but to take refuge indoors under air. It kills me to see the bright sun shining and not be able to enjoy it. One evening feeling cooped up after another day shuttered indoors, I took to the streets in search of signs of summer. It wasn’t hard to find, every street was bursting with flowers and greenery. Micro gardens I call them and the upper east side has them in every form. Window boxes, planters and garden beds were bursting with life adding color and a much needed organic element to the streetscapes. Thank you to all the gardeners out there who lovingly tend to them providing us with tiny oases of leafy beauty.
