This past March I wrote a post commenting on the Balenciaga full leg sock boots. I love the sleek clean line and modern edge they give to otherwise classic skirt and dress looks. Demna Gvasalia showed them again on the Balenciaga spring 2018 runway, this time adding color and print. What I don’t like about the Balenciaga sock boots is the $1,395.00 price tag for an item that may be this season’s furry slide and obsolete by next fall.
In March I wished for Zara to jump in and do their version, offering the look without the investment. For fall Zara and Mango did just that and then some. They’re not the only fast fashion outlets to jump on this, but their versions look the most refined and expensive. Both sites currently have a great selection of sock boots to choose from, and all are under a hundred dollars.
This was a perfect trend for fast fashion to embrace. The inexpensive materials and simple shapes make it possible for them to deliver a product that looks damn close to the original. They didn’t stop there though, expanding on the theme with flats and cap-toed versions that are standouts in their own right. Here are my favorites. One word of warning, the thigh high versions demand great legs. Only if you’ve got the gams for it, go for it, age is not the issue here.
