This story was originally posted last June but with the summer season finally here thought it was apropos to repost it today.
I published Advanced French Girl Style on May 18th and still get daily hits on it. With that in mind I thought a follow up post was in order for summer. I came upon an editorial in French Elle featuring Ines de la Fressange, in her mid fifties at the time of the shoot. Fressange proves that the right classics combined with choice accessories and a carefree attitude makes Summer French Girl Style a breeze at any age. Below I’ve broken it down to the essential elements, complete with links, for your own French Girl Style this summer.
If you have the legs for it, toned and slim, by all means go for a cut off jean short. In the first photo, I like how the shorts are not too tight, too short or too low. Remember there’s nothing wrong with taking a scissor to jeans you don’t wear and cuffing them to the desired length. A belt, gauzy white shirt and straw hat finish the look.
Maybe shorts are not for you. If this is the case you could opt for a dusty colored jean. Belted with a sandal it gives the same easy feel as shorts. A quality tee is the perfect simple top. I love my Sunspell tees; they feel great on, fit well and are more refined than your average tee.
You can’t go wrong with simple pieces in all white. Here’s the white tee again, white pant and accessorized with cuffs, chic shades and the essential straw bag.
A crisp white shirt is one of the most versatile pieces in the FGS summer arsenal. Wear over a bathing suit, tucked into a sarong, shorts or pants. I love the slouchy look of the bottom photo with an easy pant.
And lastly what’s summer, French or otherwise, without a great fitting white jean? Surfer bracelets add a summertime note, last July I wrote about Mainsai, a jewelry and watch company that make the perfect casual bracelets and cuffs to wear all summer.
