Since selling our beach house three years ago I’ve gone from summer hostess to summer houseguest and now fully appreciate just how precious a summer weekend invitation is. Summer is by far my favorite season and it kills me to be stuck indoors in the city when it’s as hot as it’s been this week. Best to keep in the good graces of my friends and appear bearing gifts for weekends away. It goes without saying to bring wine and edible treats, but it’s also nice to give a useful and lasting gift.
