It’s been two years since Maria Grazia Chiuri, took over the helm at Christian Dior. In that time she has cleverly reshaped the brand, giving it edge and honoring women with clothes that emphasize strength, style and ultimately wearability. She’s a showman and a salesman, elevating the brand’s buzz and therefore desirability while turning the Christian Dior shows into happenings. Chiuri hit her stride from the get-go and hasn’t blinked once.
Christian Dior Spring ’19
The Christian Dior Spring show was another extravaganza that involved a troupe of modern dancers, raining flower petals and smoke machines. What’s the message in the dancers that alternatively appeared to mock and covet the models, seemingly oblivious to their presence? I have no idea, but somehow it worked. Shout out to the choreographer, with nary a collision on a crowded, chaotic and compelling field.
The atmosphere created complimented the ease of movement and muted tones of the clothes. The tailoring at Dior is always flawless. This season the jacket to covet is small and fitted with a thin logo belt at the waist. A nipped waist jacket is not new to Dior; it’s part of the brand DNA. But throw it on top of easy mid calf skirts over fishnet leggings or baggy dip dyed jeans and a new, new look is born.
