A Personal Journey At Delpozo

The sublime Delpozo Resort ’18 Collection is yet another triumph for Creative Director, Josep Font. Trained as an architect, the Barcelona-born designer stays out of the limelight, which for me only adds to his allure. He obviously is a designer on a very personal journey and his accomplishments and mastery of his craft get deeper and more personal with each collection. He is, as they say, on a whole other level, and that level reached new heights with resort.

His color palette is always bold and unexpected. For Resort, Font keeps it tight in acid tones of green, coral and pink, attaching the color in dynamic forms to a base of white, navy or beige. The effect is precise and emphasizes the sculptural element to his designs. The beginning of the Resort look book highlights stiff fabrics in architectural forms swirling around the body. The vignettes in twos and threes are particularly compelling emphasizing Font’s fertile flow of ideas. Then, just when you think he can’t possibly take it any further he switches his medium to soft tulles and chiffons starting the amazing journey all over again.

Font’s genius extends to his carefully chosen accessories. Several variations of a pointy, ankle strap flat are shown throughout. For bags there are sculptural clutches in the same acid brights that serve as the perfect punctuation point. To top it off each model wears a headband pushed to the back of the head with stiff upside-down rabbit ears grazing the nape of the neck. No jewelry, there is nothing else needed, so complete is Font’s vision for Delpozo.
