Tom Ford has always been one to think out of the box and it has served him well. Coming straight from his triumph in Venice, where his latest film Nocturnal Animals was featured, to New York where he redefined the fashion show and the business of fashion in one fell swoop.
Instead of a packed house with a few celebrities paid to grace the front row, Ford had an entire audience of celebs delighted to be there. Held in the recently shuttered Four Seasons, a coup in its own right, guests were seated at round candlelit tables flanking the runway. It was a beautifully orchestrated dinner party and the debut of Ford’s Fall 2016 collections for men and women. The clothes featured on the runway last night will be in the stores ready for purchase today.
Everyone complains about the business and the grueling pace but few people do anything about it. Press and buyers complain there are too many shows. Designers complain there are too many collections. Tom Ford is doing it his way, making great clothes and having fun doing it, now that’s a coup!
