There are two Resort ‘17 collections by two women, both of whom happen to be named Véronique, that interest me. Véronique Branquinho’s collection included some very strong dresses particularly a black v-neck column with pleats at the center. Branquinho has single handedly raised the bar for collection images with her evocative photographs on location near the water with menacing industrial structures looming in the distance.
The second is Véronique Leroy. Born in Belgium she moved to Paris for school then worked for Azzedine Alaia and Martine Sitbon before launching her own collection in 1991. I confess I was not aware of her until now. With the hundreds of designers showing each season it’s easy to overlook a few but Leroy is worth watching. The black skirt and sleeveless blouse look is sublime.
