Nestled on a quiet Upper East Side block is the tiny bastion of taste and civility, L. Becker Flowers. The store opened in 1987 and remains elegantly rooted in another time, more 19th century than 21st. Owners, Larry Becker and Roger Crowley are refreshingly averse to self-promotion via social media. Instead they have cultivated a discerning clientele. The flower arrangements are all made to order by Larry to work with the client’s décor and art. This explains the absence of flowers in the store. Decorative arts were introduced early on to enhance the display of the flowers, providing a homier atmosphere. The partners choose only items they love for the store, always refined, unique and usually with a story behind them. The following are photos of the treasures on display during a recent visit.
L. Becker Flowers 217 East 83rd Street open Monday through Friday 9:00 to 5:00, weekends by appointment, or visit online.
