Style Illustrated Revisited

Style Illustrated Prima Darling

Years before I started Prima Darling I dabbled in blogging with a site called Style Illustrated.  I had recently discovered blogs and loved what they had to offer.  Habitually Chic is the first blog I started following and still love it today. Heather Clawson’s impeccable taste and direct voice kept me coming back for more.   I also loved (and still do) Man Repeller, Cup of Jo and Humans of New York. These are very different blogs and that’s what I loved, they were micro magazines with a clear point of view. A post could be consumed in minutes and unlike aimlessly trolling the Internet I left feeling gratified and even inspired.  I decided to throw my hat in the ring just for fun.

As the name implies, Style Illustrated was a fashion blog with illustrations.  Yesterday I was aimlessly surfing the web when I stumbled upon my old site. I guess it’s true what they say, nothing ever dies on the Internet, but I was happy to see it’s still out there in the ether.  My first Prima Darling post, “Full Circle” mentions Style Illustrated with a link that still works. I thought it would be fun to show you, my wonderful Prima Darling readers, the blog that essentially gave birth to PD. What I learned in those few short months of blogging was key to starting this blog. The amount of time, research, writing and grunt work it takes was something I wasn’t ready to commit to then, but knew right off the bat that I loved the platform.

Now nearly two years into Prima Darling I’m excited about the plans for expansion that are in the works. More on that to come soon. I also now fully appreciate just how integral Style Illustrated was to making Prima Darling possible.  The illustrations were dropped, but I’m thinking of reinstating illustrations in a limited way.  I would love to hear your thoughts on what you like, and even what you don’t like about Prima Darling, and welcome any suggestions you may have.

As a longtime fan of the great Diana Vreeland I had to print this true but never printed story which perfectly captures her spirit.

Here are some of my favorite illustrations with links to the Style Illustrated posts.  You’ll notice my loves; taste and obsession with hair have remained consistent. Lastly, thank you to every one of you who visit Prima Darling, I couldn’t do it without you!
